Looking for more of a Shiraz style here from the start and Murdock Hill’s position in the lower gentler sloping back of the hills is well situated for that expression, albeit with an Adelaide Hills levity. 100% destemmed into a small fermenter it was gently pressed at dryness and yielded just enough to fill and old French puncheon where it rested unsulphured for 16 months.
Dark, soft red with good clarity from the long elevage. This shows a nice maturity already form its long elevage. Ripe plum and dark cherry, a little kalamata olive, lovely earth and spice fragrance. Nice mix of darker edged fruits and savoury tones. Medium bodied with impressive texture and weight. More structural to start with fine mineral acidity underpinning concentrated flavours or fresh dark cherry and tart wild Hills blackberry. Tannins are very fine and perfectly poised emerging a little on the finish. Tangy mineral acidity emerges from the barrel wave of favour and tannins to finish with a fresh tone.
