2022 Tullah Syrah

100+ year old Shiraz on deep sand below the Grenache of the same name. Like the Grenache these vines have been lovingly restored and appear as healthy as much younger examples. Hand harvested, of course, and processed same day. Fairly easy ferment set up with 100% whole bunches as a bold first attempt to translate this parcel. Certainly some similarities on the nose that suggest vineyard influence.
The earthy mineral note is more sanguine/iron here due to the absence of the pretty aromatics of the Grenache. Along with that savoury note expect black olive, dark chocolate and blackberries. Again there is evolution. The palate is actually a little lighter bodied than the nose suggests; definitely medium weight. Concentration is lightened by the 100% whole bunch while tannins become more obvious with a grainier feel. Freshness is plentiful provided in part from the greener bunchy notes again and dual acidities. Super savoury to taste with a little black cherry and blackberry fruit but its mostly olive and dark chocolate and briny acidity.
